Usability Tests

I conducted five usability tests, which consisted of an interview followed by completing tasks on Spot On, and then on their own Point of Sale (POS) systems. To ensure accuracy, I used my camera to record the screen since the tests were conducted on the actual servers in the restaurants.

Using this method, I was able to identify pain points, edge cases, and understand the specific challenges users face in their day-to-day work.

Outcome

5 Usability tests

Tasks

  • Add to the order 2 main dishes and 2 drinks.

  • Add guests to the check.

  • Split the check.

Analysis

Following the research methods mentioned earlier, I gathered substantial raw data, including quantitative and qualitative insights. The primary objective of this research was to identify the specific issues that SpotOn servers experiences during the order process.

We mapped out the business process, clarifying roles and objectives, and identifying pain points. By breaking down the order process and mapping customer journeys, we highlighted critical moments needing targeted solutions.

Primary objectives

One of the primary objectives of this project was to determine what motivates students the most to book a private class with a tutor and identify the specific criteria affecting their decision.

The project has several constraints.I could not add any additional filters or steps and avoid decisions requiring extra effort from tutors.

Discover, create, iterate

During the first several user interviews, a crucial insight emerged – users often base their choice of private tutors on appearance. This feedback confirmed the need for changes to the Catalog page, particularly regarding photo quality. The existing website featured tiny, low-quality photos that failed to support users in making intuitive tutor selections.

Solution

After conducting 15 user interviews, I developed a way to improve photo quality without burdening tutors. I enlarged the photo size, made it mandatory, and included tips on necessary photo types.

The results of the user testing were remarkable. Out of 12 users, all preferred larger photos, as they allow for a better view of the tutor's posture, apparel, and gaze, which were the most important aspect fo them in choosing the tutor.

Summary

After conducting user interviews, we were able to identify the key factors that helped users in selecting a private tutor. As a result, we were able to provide a quick solution to the stakeholders and meet the needs of both private tutors and students. The business found this idea valuable and, based on feedback from real users, decided to implement the changes on their website.
